Minority Nurses… commonly mistaken for CNA?

Discussion

To begin, there is nothing wrong with being a CNA. I appreciate all of their hard work as we cannot do our jobs without collaborating with them.

I am a new grad nurse just started my full time position at a SNF. This facility uses agency for many of the shifts so upon arrival, they must report to a supervisor for their assignment. This is my 4th shift of training where someone assumed was a CNA, before reading my huge blinged out badge that is decorated with a badge buddy that says “NURSE.”

In a very diverse state (NJ) and facility, why is it that nurses of other races assume a black woman is a CNA before an RN/LPN? Please make it make sense.
