RTX 3090 Thermal Paste Replacement
Hey everyone,
My uncle was mining ETH for a while and had a bunch of 3090s lying around now that he's decided to stop, he gave me one of them and it seems the thermal paste is absolutely dead.
I'm gonna replace it but I'm not sure what thermal paste I should use, as I have some CPU paste tubes lying around but I've seen some people claim it's not viscous enough for a GPU. Should I get a different type and should I replace the thermal pads as well (and where can I check the proper sizes for my particular model - its the Zotac Trinity OC)?
Any help is heavily appreciated
In case anyone is wondering how I've decided the thermal paste is cooked:
-
Tried running a benchmark, GPU instantly crashed and went to 83C (Thermal Throttle limit) with fans spinning like jets
-
After undervolting to 850mV, the card is stable, however any reasonable load puts it up to 80C with fans spinning at 100% and the GPU hotspot is around 104-105C according to HWinfo, which is not normal
-
Finally undervolting and putting power limit down to 65-70% keeps the card relatively cool and quiet
