FOUNDATION IPTS TO DEGREE IPTA

general question

Hi everyone, I really need some honest advice.

I’m a non-bumi student and I’m currently very lost trying to figure out my next education pathway. I recently dropped out from an IPTS degree because the fees were just too expensive. RM8k per semester (total RM64k) is something my family really can’t afford. I also realised I can’t cope well with too heavy theory subjects like chemical engineering.

After dropping out, I started applying for jobs to save money for my future education.

My SPM isn’t great. I was in art/business stream and got 1A, 5Bs, 1D (Business), and 1E (Math). No science subjects. My Foundation in Science and Technology (IPTS) CGPA is 3.11, I got A for Maths and Chem if that helps and MUET Band 3.5. I know my results aren’t that good to compete with other applicants, and because of financial issues, I really need an IPTA pathway.

My main confusion now is: is it even possible to enter a Diploma in IPTA after graduating from a foundation in IPTS? I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just genuinely lost and unsure how things work.

WHY diploma? because i heard that foundation ipts students that want to change to ipta degree chances are low. so that is why i want to start from zero if possible but my spm sucks plus im non-bumi.

I’m interested in either pure chemistry or architecture, but I’m not sure how realistic these choices are.

My questions:

  1. Should I aim for a degree straight, or start with Diploma first?

  2. For architecture, I don’t have a proper portfolio (only some art + engineering drawing experience). Will this be an issue for Diploma Architecture?

  3. Is there any public uni that might accept foundation ipts graduat + non bumi?

I’m honestly very confused and trying my best to find a way forward. Any advice from people who’ve gone through similar situations would really help. Thank you.
