My take on the biggest issue with the final battle:
Second half specifically. The issue is writing and tone. It's played off as this insane Intergalactic battle across the universe, culminating on the ring of a black hole, with one hell of a fight with stellar design, one of the best they've ever done mechanically I felt. Dodging miniture black holes left and right, your energy tanks being stolen and turning certain phases into morph ball sections on the fly, genius.
But the problem is, this feels like the battle you'd have at the end of a new trilogy, the final showdown with Sylux, something that's been built up to over a long stretch of time. And we've only just met this rando, with no buildup whatsoever apart from him getting boinked over at the start of the game, with his other two boss fights literally amounting to holograms essentially.
His backstory, only hinted at until you finish the game and watch the whole damn cutscene, he comes off as just a whiny douche who couldn't get his gun, not a man who was devastated that Samus didn't arrive in time to save his men, which would've hit much harder. They jumped the shark hard here, felt like they were trying to stuff far too much in at the last minute. His log entry about how he made mind controlling Metroids then took over the Space Pirates also felt rushed to me. Don't know how or even if they'll use him in later games at this rate. How'd you guys feel about it?
