BMC Roadmachine AL X ONE - Have I made the right choice ?
TLDR: does the AL-uminium Roadmachine lives up to its name with its extra long reach, more akin to a gravel bike ?
---
Greetings,
I just pulled the trigger on this BMC Roadmachine AL X ONE as my first proper road bike.
I would like a super cool do-it-all leisure bike/commuter, and the Roadmachine marketing got me hyped.
I will almost exclusively ride on not so good countryside paved road, so a performance orientated bike with a realistic/jack of all thread approach is super appealing.
But as I dug deeper into the numbers I realized that despite being classified as an Endurance bike (like all the Roadmachine), the ALuminum version doesn't have much in the common with the high end carbon "regular" models, it is an URS (gravel) in disguise.
As such it has a very long reach and I'm afraid I wont like it.
My apple to orange comparison is that I have driven all sort of motorcycles, from Trails to Supersports. I eventually got used to the more demanding long reach/twisted neck ones, but it's not what I like.
Maybe bikes are something else entirely though, and the comparaison is pointless.
I'm 179cm (more or less 5' 10") with regular leg and limbs, and I chose the medium version, which is recommended for 170 - 182 cm. So at least if the reach feels too long there maybe room for improvement with a shorter stem.
How would you advise a noob like me ? Thanks for you help !
