[Update] Jellyswarrm v0.2.0: The Server Federation & User Management Update
I finally had some time to work on Jellyswarrm, and I’ve reworked how server linking and user management works. Keeping users in sync across multiple Jellyfin servers was getting a bit tedious (my “swarm” has grown since last time), so this update focuses on making that much easier. This Update mainly provides the following 2 new Features:
Server Federation
You can now provide admin credentials for connected servers.
Any server with admin credentials becomes federated. This means:
- Users created in Jellyswarrm are automatically created on all federated servers
- User deletions are also synced
- All necessary user mappings are generated automatically
This allows Jellyswarrm to manage users across multiple servers seamlessly.
User Page
A new User Page has been added alongside the Admin Page.
Users can now:
- View their connected servers
- Choose which servers they want to connect to
- Provide their own credentials, which are securely encrypted with their personal password (Administrators cannot decrypt these credentials without the user’s password.)
A new Media section is also included, showing which libraries users have access to on each server.
This lays the foundation for future features such as selective library access and full library merging.
Here is a short video showcasing the federation:
With user management mostly sorted out, the next big feature I want to tackle is proper library merging.
Not just listing all libraries from every server, but actually merging them with deduplication and version/media prioritization.
Before I start, I’d love your input:
-
If two servers have the same movie, should it appear as one entry with multiple playback options, or should just the one with e.g. better quality be displayed?
-
For shows, should seasons from different servers be merged into a single series?
-
What’s the best way to detect duplicates across servers? Is matching by TVDB ID enough, or should we rely on something else?
