Help me find this movie I saw as a kid.

When I was a toddler, I was staying up at night watching TV when I suddenly saw this movie that to this day, I've been searching for. It began with a man in a dark room, illuminated only by a small light, writing a ton of notes about *something* before dying sometime later. The movie was about his widow running around escaping from the gang of criminals with a tall black man she hired as her bodyguard. The criminals were all after the notes her husband had written.

I'm not exactly sure if this even *was* in the movie or if it was just from another movie and I fused the memories together. But at some point in the movie, the woman's daughter dies by being hit by a car, and later in the movie she has a dream about going into an old, scary looking church and seeing the ghost of her daughter.

At the end of the movie, the woman and her bodyguard proceeded to rip up the notes and send them flying around a park. As they walked away, the boss of the criminal group just got on his knees and began screaming into the air. The ending of the movie was a little boy finding a single surviving complete note, smiling at it, and walking away with it in tow.
