The art of stillness hit me harder than any workout.

For the longest time, I thought recovery meant doing more. more movement, more stretching, more hustle. But lately, my body’s been whispering something different. Quietly, persistently.

Even on my off days, I’d wake feeling like I’d been folded into a suitcase overnight. Legs like anchors. Spine stiff like winter branches. I kept pushing, thinking I wasn’t doing enough.

Then something shifted. One night, I laid on my B mat, tossed a bolter beneath my back, and simply stopped. Legs up the wall. Breath slow. No playlists, no goals. Just gravity and stillness.

It wasn’t dramatic. But the next morning, my body exhaled. For once, it didn’t feel like it was bracing itself against the day.

Now this little ritual has become my reset.

It’s strange how doing “nothing” can sometimes be the thing that saves you.

Anyone else have recovery habits that surprised them with how deeply they worked?
