How to sound like the pros?

So this is my first time asking a question on Reddit, but I cannot for the life of me seem to find an answer for my questions...

I love raves, particularly House/Deep House/Techno DJs. During lockdown when we couldn't go out I taught myself how to DJ and have now got the basics down.

However, there comes a time in a great DJs set when the music becomes "unshazamable". That is - to my ear - they aren't just mixing songs together, they are essentially building tracks up live to mix in with more recognisable songs. I'm thinking of DJs like Purple Disco Machine, Ben Klock, Worakls, Maxxi Soundsystem, Horse Meat Disco etc

My question is - is this an accurate assessment of what they're doing? And how do they do it (i.e what kit are they using? Obviously everyone is differnet but what kind of gear allows for this)

I'm currently using a Roland dj-505 which I'm aware is limited to 2 channels. It is simply a case of having 4 channels so I can cut and layer more loops? Or do I need a sequencer/groovebox to be adding another dimension to the sound?

Any help is appreciated, many thanks x
