I went to the endo mostly to get information and set baselines, but I got overwhelmed (MtF)
tl;dr: What's the best hormone treatment plan for someone who is ok with a slow transition, with no plans to present as a woman for until 12 months from now?
I'm older than most people on reddit (30+). I'm currently only out to a few friends. I don't present as a woman in my daily life. I have no burning need to immediately present and live as a woman, but I feel it coming. I want to "stealth transition". It feels like I want to take low dosages of hormones for 6 to 12 months, evaluate, increase from there, evaluate. But then I got overwhelmed talking to the endo about where estrogen hormones, testosterone blockers, and then progesterone fit in to this.
I guess I'm having trouble verbalizing what I want other than "to be happy" and then crying.
Currently I'm:
- Growing my hair, playing with clothes and appearance, painting fingernails and things like that. But all things that don't give off any real "I'm definitely presenting as a woman" vibes.
- I've recently started electrolysis on my hands, and we're working up my arms for now.
- Therapy of course is going on in the background.
What I want:
- I feel like I want to "stealth transition" for one year. I have no problems continuing to dress in boy mode and allowing things to build up slowly. I really like the idea of coming to a plateau of sorts, evaluating, and then continuing on.
- No current sexual activity right now, so I'm not concerned about libido or penis/testicle function. I have a vasectomy anyway.
So what does that mean for an HRT plan? I think I'd be ok with low-dosage estrogen and low-dosage testosterone blockers for 6 months to a year. Then increasing dosages based on blood-work and side effects and all that. But then where in a timeline would Progesterone fit in? Right from the start, or at some point later? Or, are there other plans where its better to start testosterone blockers first then estrogen, or some kind of combination?
