Suggestion for Devs: Add a LOW-Dive Button to Improve Goalkeeping and Gameplay?

Discussion

I think the game would really benefit from a more skill-based goalkeeper system. At the moment the keeper only needs to read the shot direction in a very basic “left or right” way, which makes them a bit too strong and often allows them to carry an entire team. This is one of the reasons the current shooting meta leans so heavily toward priority spamming.

A simple improvement would be to give goalkeepers two clear decision options:

  • Triangle = High dive (as it is now)
  • New button = Low dive

Right now the saving system is extremely binary because the only decision is left, right or middle. There is no real depth. If the game introduced low right, low left, high right, high left and the possibility of an opponent shooting middle, the goalkeeper position becomes a real mindgame instead of animation roulette. It raises the skill ceiling without making the controls more complicated.

If anyone is unsure what I mean, a simple comparison is FIFA’s penalty system where keepers have to guess low left, low right, middle, high left or high right. Rematch would obviously feel very different, but the core idea of giving goalkeepers multiple read options applies.

This change would actually make scoring easier at first because keepers would no longer auto-cover everything through priority animations. In the long term that is a healthy shift. If finishing becomes easier, players will naturally rely less on spamming shots from every angle, because every attempt becomes a real risk of conceding on transition.

The most important effect is that defending becomes significantly more rewarding. If attackers cannot brute-force goals through priority shots anymore, teams will finally need to defend properly, block passing lanes, win tackles and control positioning. It pushes the game toward real football flow and teamwork instead of chaotic shooting.

I truly hope the devs consider this direction. A dedicated low-dive input alongside the existing high dive could be a small mechanical addition with a massive positive impact on match quality and gameplay balance.
