Lines from Grantchester, Season One, Episode Two
I was watching the episode on Netflix yesterday. The show takes place in 1953, two years after the release of “A Kiss to Build a Dream On.” The show is about a jazz-loving, mystery-solving cleric who served in WWII. I think that the following lines sum up the wonder of jazz:
[Characters are in a car with “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” playing on the radio]
Have you ever thought of livening up your services with a bit of jazz?
—That's actually not a bad idea.
—You're not serious? —Why not?
You can never tell if the notes are being played in the right order.
—That's the wonder of it, Jen. There's no right way and there's no right order.
—I think people must get very lost.
—Getting lost is all part of the fun.
