Kidney Stones and the Urge to Urinate
(First, I apologize for my writing, english is not my first language)
Hi, I'm an 18(F) and I'm here to tell you about something that has been happening to me for the past month. At the beginning of November, I suddenly started feeling slight discomfort in my abdomen, followed by a strong urge to pee. At first, it didn't bother me much, but after two days, I couldn't sleep because I constantly needed to pee, and I was in pain. I initially thought it was a UTI, so my mother gave me antibiotics. She gets UTIs frequently, so when I told her my symptoms, she immediately said it was probably a UTI. Nevertheless, I made an appointment to see a doctor.
I told him about my symptoms, and he recommended that I continue taking the antibiotic Cipro, as well as perform a urine test and culture. The results were negative, but the pain, urinary frequency, and urgency continued. I went to a urologist, who initially ordered a CT scan with contrast to check for kidney stones. The CT scan was clear except for some fluid in the pelvic region. When I returned, the urologist said it was possibly a UTI that the antibiotics were masking. He prescribed different antibiotics and Cystex to help with the symptoms. A few days passed, however, and I was still not convinced. I went to another urologist, who ordered an ultrasound of my urinary tract. They identified a 5 mm stone in my left kidney. I went back to the doctor, who said the pain was from the stone and that I should drink plenty of water because the kidney stone was small, the doctor didn't prescribe any medication, just water. I've never had kidney stones before, and the urgency and frequency of my urination is making me desperate. I can hold it in, but the feeling of a full bladder is constant, and I don't know if the stone could be the cause, since that seems to be the only abnormality. I've had other tests, such as blood tests, and they came back normal. Since he didn't prescribe any medication, I'm just drinking water. However, I'm getting worried because the symptoms aren't going away. I feel slight pain in my groin and abdomen.
Does anyone have any advice?
