Talk me out of buying a Nitro TMax

So I've got a Nephew who is getting into RC, and my son will be old enough in no time.

As a kid I always dreamed of a Nitro Traxxis car, but couldn't pull together the cash before I moved on as a teen. I've found a nitro Traxxis Tmax with all the extras cheap.

I've never had nitro, but very familiar with gasoline small engines so I figure it would be a small learning curve.

Will it make me the coolest dad/uncle or are they so obsolete at this point I won't be able to repair when things break??
