Freaking out about Septoplasty- am I being dramatic?
So I’m getting a septoplasty on Thursday, and I’m freaking out about it. The thought of being called back is making me the most nervous, because I know I can’t go back. I’m also worried about the pain after surgery, if I say something stupid after anesthesia, and if my family will coddle me afterwards.
I’ll start with the background. I’ve had terrible postnasal drip and a stuffy nose for the last three years, which started after I got a cold back in 2022. I’ve tried every medication to try and get rid of it (Flonase, Cetrizine, Hydroxyzine, Claritin, Zyrtec, etc), nothing worked. My deviated septum wasn’t discovered until earlier this year. I believe I was born with it, but didn’t show symptoms until now. my ENT actually tried to warn me against getting surgery, as it could change my life, and she wanted me to do whatever I thought was best for my quality of life, which honestly, I don’t know. I didn’t even know what a deviated septum was before I found out I had one lol. However, all of my other doctors believed it was a good idea for me to get a septoplasty, so I went through with it.
My biggest fear right now is the anesthesia. Going to sleep and not waking up, or having a complication because of my postnasal drip (I’ve had a slightly wet cough for the last week, but it isn’t like my typical cold. I’m still worried about it though because I’ve been pretty congested nasally. However, my doctor cleared me and said that this surgery should help. I just don’t want to die in the middle of it (I know, I’m starting to overreact). I’m also worried about waking up during the surgery, or the extreme discomfort afterwards, along with my parents constantly pampering me (I know that supposed to be a good thing, but I don’t like being fussed over lol).
Has anybody else felt like this or relate to my experience with postnasal drip/nasal congestion? Also, I’d love to know if anybody’s getting a septoplasty on the same day I am, it makes me feel better, knowing somebody else is going through the same thing.
