Struggling to deal with my ex’s social media presence
My (33M) wife (27F) asked for a divorce back in September. This completely blindsided me, I was still very much in love with her and I thought I was a good husband. The months that followed sucked but I made it through. We went through mediation and the divorce was filed in mid-November, and I moved out soon after.
This past month has probably been the hardest in my life. I moved back in with my family because I couldn’t afford a place of my own. But what made it exponentially worse was seeing some of the things she was posting on social media (before I realized and blocked her) about me. She would post about how happy she was her abuser was gone, how she tried so hard to make it work, etc etc. All lies. The truth, as I’ve come to find out a couple days ago, is that she was emotionally cheating on me for months, and it turned physical soon after I moved out.
My wife has a pretty decent following on social media. Enough that all of our joint friends, and friends of friends, would see all the stuff she is posting. I’ve had people confront me about how I treated her, even from my own family. So not only am I dealing with the loss of my best friend and trying to move on from that, I’m also dealing with just about everyone I know being fed these lies from my ex wife. I’m constantly having to defend myself, and even then, I’m not offered any kind of support from anyone outside my direct family. Apparently she is still posting stuff even months later now.
I don’t really know if there is anything I can do. But has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is there anything I can do in this situation? I try to just ignore it and live my own life but it’s super disheartening and I have a hard time just leaving the house and trying to move on.
