Am I doing something wrong on D&D beyond?

I'm helping my wife roll up a new character for her first time on D&D beyond. It's been awhile for me but there's a few things that seem...off. Like it won't let us select the correct paths, spells and the like. Then while choosing equipment, it's not using gold and let's you just get whatever you want? We are also starting at lvl 2 for this campaign, but it's still only allowing lvl 1 stuff. We're using the'standard' character creator. HELP?
