Advice for Teaching for Special Ed

DISCUSSION

So I recently got invited to interview for teaching at a Special Education school (for disabilities) through my Teach Tomorrow Masters Internship program/the department but I find myself to have quite limited experience with kids with disabilities.

AFAIK the school is much smaller, with around 80ish students across P-12. I would very much like to give teaching in special education a shot, and the internship is about 6 months long. Not too sure if this is as relevant but the position is for teaching visual arts.

However, the most I’ve experienced is teaching two students with ADHD, one student with hearing disabilities and observed another student in another class (high on the spectrum) with autism in large classes during my placements.

I would love to hear perspectives from everyone’s experiences and if anyone had any tips for teaching in special education!

If anyone has any advice on this (as well as what I should consider during the interview) please let me know :)
