Should I leave wfh for higher pay?
I (28F) am currently a manager at a fully remote company (100k salary). I’ve been here for the last 14 months and last week my director told me I’m being promoted to senior manager next month (no details on new comp just yet - she said stay tuned). But, I’ve been in the interview process for a Director position (applied before I knew I’d be promoted) and after 6 rounds of interviews with other leaders at the company - I received an offer of 160k + 16k bonus on Friday (need to make a decision by early this week). The new role would be 4 days in office, Fridays from home.
I really enjoy my company, team, and WFH. But my goal has been to become a director hence why I jumped on applying to the new company. The role is in the same industry and is actually with a strong competitor (I did not sign a non compete in my current role). My fiance and I both are fully remote which has been nice. If I stayed at my current company, I would likely be promoted to director within ~2 yrs or so (of course not guaranteed but I’m next in line and my director has assured me of this during the conversation last week)
The commute to the new role would be tough for the first 3 months (2hrs round trip) until my fiance and I move. Once we move, the commute would be nothing (the office is 2 miles from the house). We can’t move any sooner due to us renting out our home / a lease is already in place with our tenants.
Thinking about both opportunities - any advice for this situation? It makes it harder not knowing what the new compensation will be for the promotion but of course it will still be much lower than the Director offer and it’s not like I have time to wait to find out what it’ll be.
