Belated NY Marathon update — and question about testing after layoff

Hi everyone,

I ran my first ever marathon (NY) a month ago, a few days shy of my 55th birthday. My goal was under 4:00, my dream was under 3:45 and I ran 3:43. I got cocky because I caught up to the 3:30 pacesetter and stuck with him miles 5-20, and then... I was punished for my hubris. But that cushion allowed me to beat my goal despite having to (embarrassingly) stop and walk for 20 seconds or so, 4-5 times in the last few miles.

I would never have accomplished this without this community, Coach Palladino's training plans, and the little voice in my ear saying "speed up / slow down to power of XX for Y minutes"

I have not run since (5 weeks, my longest layoff all year) and my next goal is the United Half Marathon on March 15, exactly 14 weeks away.

I went to set up a Stryd training plan, and it said I should do some testing first, recommending 2 weeks. Should I:

  1. ignore that and just start a 14 week training plan and let my CP adjust?

  2. do the 2 week testing and opt for a 12 week training plan?

  3. is there some one-off test run I can do?

Thanks to all!
