I’m 17 and want to leave home and start a new life.

The title sounds bad I know but let me explain. I am 17 years old and live in the uk. I am currently in year 13 taking alevels but I can 100% say I will fail my exams next year.

My home life is extremely complicated and both my parents are “functional” alcoholics. They will both drink extreme amounts of alcohol everyday and although they have never been physically abusive or anything, I’m not sure how much longer I can live in this house. I feel like I am suffocating here and have become extremely depressed by this situation.

So here is my plan. I am thinking of dropping out of school and renting somewhere a far away from here. I have about £10,000 saved and would rent a room and start full time employment in a pub or something . I would restart year 13 in a next September in a different sixth form. I am thinking of leaving on the 6th of January and not telling anyone. Just leaving a long note explaining why I am doing this and that it’s not permanent.

I know that this would be an utterly selfish decision and I love both my parents. But because of that I can’t stand to watch them slowly kill themself with alcohol. I also can’t take another second in my school, I missed large chunks of year 12 and would need more time to catch up.

A few other things to note is I would be turning 18 in February next year, I know there are legal implications of leaving home at 17 but I’m not sure how much longer my mental health can keep going on as I am.

Am I being completely stupid? Has anyone got any advice on how they would handle this situation.
