How Do You Survive Isolation Without Killing Your Emotions?

Seeking Support

I want to be very direct with my question.

How do you navigate isolation without constantly suppressing your emotions and eventually giving up on initiating anything with others?

My situation:

I am mostly alone. Nobody really cares to include me or stay in my life, and past friendships have faded away. Marriage is not something that seems possible for me (as I explained in earlier posts). So this isolation has become my reality — and I’m starting to accept that.

My question is how to manage this in a healthy and realistic way. Because the only approach I’ve found so far is to emotionally distance myself: lowering expectations, holding back positive feelings toward others, and constantly regulating myself so that I don’t end up disappointed again. I still remain respectful, kind and helpful to all brothers and sisters, and to people around me in general. But I do it now with the understanding that nothing deeper or lasting will come from it. It’s simply a way to protect myself from getting hurt again. This way of functioning, becoming more robotic, always holding yourself back, is deeply draining, especially when you know you’re not naturally like this. It’s not how I want to be, but right now it feels like the only way to cope.

I want to make it clear that I’m not talking about the “cold and detached” mindset that’s often promoted on social.

TL;DR:

How do you deal with isolation realistically, without constantly suppressing your emotions, and without giving up on meaningful connection — while still protecting yourself?

This will probably be my last post. Sadly, it feels like our ummah is not supportive of individuals going through something like this, or maybe they just can’t relate to these kinds of struggles at all.
