Is this "normal" dating for Gen Z, or am I just being a Boomer?
I'm actually not a Boomer, I'm Gen X, but my son says I have a Boomer mentality on this issue. He's 25 and met a girl in college six months ago and she's just like him; brilliant nerd, socially awkward, video gamer, etc. All the things. He liked her immediately. She's 20 and has never dated; no first kiss, no hand holding, no hugging non familial males. They became friends and she told him in the beginning that she believes that she will end up with a guy who she was friends with first. He's head over heels, but playing the friend role "till she's ready." I'm seeing a broken heart in his future. He's dated before, so he knows how it feels to have a 'crush' on someone but according to him, she has never even had a crush other than celebrities and anime dudes. She says she's straight, but I dunno. It feels like he's her straight gay friend and I have been around him when he was broken hearted and I know this is going to break him when/if it ends. Even when I was a 15 year old never been kissed girl, I KNEW what it was like to have a crush on an actual guy verses a celebrity! I knew the difference in feelings between guys at school I had a crush on verses guys I didn't, but he seems to think she's "different." Am I THAT off? Is GenZ stuff THAT different these days?? Oh, and if it matters (which I dont see how it would) she's Vietnamese...
