“What if’s”
What if all the “what if’s” were granted a moment in the sun? What if every mistake, every misstep, were allowed a replay, as if fate itself were willing to renegotiate its judgment? What if every path, every hidden strategy of the soul, were given room to breathe and unfold?
Would you still remain the person you have become? Would you truly dare to cast aside the truth just to wander inside a comforting tale— a tale where conscience sleeps?
Tell me— would you still press that knife into my spine, quietly, almost tenderly, as if betrayal were a natural gesture of the human heart? Would you feel the weight—the terrible, choking weight— of losing everything I offered you, just to live a life where things arrive neatly, delivered on a silver tray to those who never learned to bleed for them?
Would you truly risk extinguishing the light in my eyes only to conceal the sickening truth you fear to confront? And would you, at last, swallow your pride, that pride which has chained you more cruelly than any prison, and admit what you have long avoided?
…
But now—now it is too late. The chance I gave you came as a sealed envelope, a quiet mercy you never even touched. And perhaps my greatest regret is that I ever sent it toward you at all.
