Commuting safety to Anacostia Metro

I just got a job at the Coast Guard and driving there is hell, especially on 295. I was thinking taking the metro on the green line to Anacostia metro station . How safe is it to walk from anacostia to hq and back? I don’t have my CAC yet to take the DHS and want to save the headache of driving. Any advice?
