Starting remote desktop client software remotely

Hello all. If there's a better sub for this feel free to point me that direction.

Currently I'm trying to set up something like, starting a teamviewer/rustdesk client via ssh, then attempting to use those to get in and operate as normal. I run into the issue with both that there's no display to show, which makes me think it's not possible through ssh without some magic since I'm accessing a separate session.

In truth, I just want to be able to ensure I can restart the remote desktop program of my choice in case of issue so I can do some development while I'm away for the holidays without the proper hardware. If there's a more standard way to do this, please let me know. Thanks.
