Is deep, platonic friendship still a thing? I'm hoping to find out!
Hey! Do you feel like the art of platonic friends is dying? I do. And I mean that in the full extent of the word - a pair (or group) of people who make each other grow and evolve. The kind of people who are able to entertain the opposing argument and respectfully disagree at times. Who can discuss big ideas, but also, just talk about daily life. The kind of people who make an effort and treat others the way they want to be treated.
I'm hoping to find someone who shares the sentiment. I know a lot of people prefer something more casual, need to vent or just don't feel like making too much effort. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's just not something I'm looking for.
I want to engage in what you have to say and I'm hoping you'll want to engage with "my stuff" too. I like to build commitment. Of course, it's an internet friendship, there's no vows required, but, with time, I want to build trust, I want to make time for you when you need it the most and I hope for the same in return.
That said, I fully get it if that's not your thing. Or you change your mind, decide I'm not the right fit. That's 100% okay with me. If that happens, please, just let me know, no harm done! I promise to do the same if it ever happens the other way round.
A few words about me. I'm Dawid (David or Dave works just as well), 30 M from Poland. I'm a software developer and I'm lucky enough to be working from home. That's when I have the most time to chat, but I can also do afternoons or evenings.
I'm pretty chatty, I like talking about the day-to-day situations I end up in. I always try to make it a story, you know, get the narrative entertaining or a bit silly! I have a dog so if you happen to like them - I'm more than happy to share some pics. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking (I'd love to share pics and recipes) and typical "nerdy" hobbies - D&D, games, learning random facts about science, philosophy, ethics and so on.
Now, I know it's hard to start and make the first move. What do I even say to a complete stranger? How to think of a good opener that will lead to an interesting conversation? Don't worry, I got you! Here are a few ideas you might use:
- Tell me about a situation you've witnessed, happened to you or you've read about in a book. Tell me about the characters, what were their motivations and ethics! Did John go too far? Were Jane's actions justifiable? I'd love to know!
- What's your take on consciousness? Where it comes from, what it is? Does it even exist?
- Tell me a story about your weekend or day! No matter how mundane, if the narrative is good, then I'm sure I'll find it entertaining!
- Are we alone in the universe? How is it possible we haven't detected anything, given how vast the cosmos is?
- Or come up with your own idea! As long as you put in some effort, I will reply, I promise!
If you got this far - big thank you for reading. Truly! If you've enjoyed it and feel like we're the right fit, please message me!
One more thing - I'm looking for someone at the very least 21+, preferably 25+. I know a lot of you, younger folks are great people, however, I feel like it's rather inappropriate for 30 yo to try and befriend someone in their late teens.
Disclaimer: I'm not using reddit that much and while at first it's okay, I'd like to move to Discord as we grow to know each other (I prefer typing, but I can do occasional VC if you'd like). Hope that's not too much of an inconvenience!
