Cost for Clock Spring Replacement on Limited 2013

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair

My horn on my 2013 4Runner Limited has stopped working almost entirely. It will work sometimes if my wheel is turned to the left, but doesn't work when straight or to the right. All the other buttons on the steering wheel work.

From what I have researched, this means the clock spring needs replacement. I was at first looking to replace this part with the OEM part because of others reporting some issues when using cheaper ones from Ebay and the cost was only ~$250 vs $30. However, the dealership near me quoted me $862 for just this one part #84307-30090.

There are options for this part on Ebay, such as this one, which is only $80. My concern with using the Ebay part is that from my understanding it interfaces with the airbag, so I don't want to cheap out on it. That is my main reason for wanting to use the OEM part. However, I really don't want to spend almost ~$1000 (after tax) on a single part.

Do you all recommend going with the cheaper alternative or should I spend the money for the OEM part?
