Help wanted

Hey there,

I am a thirty seven year old dad who was diagnosed with IGAN early this year.

I have been on PD for about ten months now. I am desperately seeking a kidney transplant but I have read all the posts here from people with auto immune issues to those who have already had a kidney transplant.

One major recurring theme has been transplant recipients describing a major shift in their state of mind and feelings of depression.

I understand that the medications can cause this change, but has anyone managed to keep it under control? Do you take SSRIs, and which medications are known to cause this issue?

Has your transplant been worth it? I am just scared because I really want a kidney, but I am worried I might harm my mental health. Worst of all, I do not want anything to come between me, my wife, and my baby girl.

Please let me know if your transplant has been the best decision of your life. I am sure there are hurdles, just like there were when I was diagnosed, when I had the catheter surgery, and during my PD training, but all of that came naturally to me. I am still active, healthy, and living a great life.

I am just worried because of everything I have read here.

I’ll end with this, wherever you are in your journey I wish you all the best!
