BIG DEAL CANADIANS
Okay, so I'm a Canadian, so I have a slightly different array of public domain assets to use. Personally, I'm fascinated by the concept of public domain characters who still have clout within contemporary media, so my favorite PD character for a long time was plastic man, who's usable in both Canada and the US. Until...
APPARENTLY WONDER WOMAN IS PUBLIC DOMAIN?
Okay, so the writer died in 1947 and the artist died in 1958, but due to the 50-70 year thing, the character would have been public domain by like... 1999 if I'm not mistaken? How is this not a SUPER well known fact? I mean, wonder woman is one of the most iconic characters period. I can seriously make my own comic featuring plastic man and wonder woman doing literally whatever, sell it, and it would be completely legal! Like, holy shit, this is legitimately game-changing information, and I feel like I'm the one who dug it up. And the internet makes distribution global. I could make a movie about wonder woman and hatsune miku hanging out completely legally. I could make wonder woman do Crack. I could make wonder woman do literally anything and not be sued, and the entire world will be able to witness it. And the kick is that 40 million other Canadians have as much legal claim to her, as well as citizens of other places with liberal PD laws. This is a huge fucking deal.
