Selling house privately

Heya Perth people, will be looking to sell my home that I've had for the last 20 years sometime next year. Was just wondering if anyone has gone the private sellers route? Are there any advantages/disadvantages doing it this way? I know a lot of you have some pretty strong feelings about real estate agents and I kind of agree.
