80s slayer style tone

I'm looking to get better tone from my Kramer nightswan which has sd jb pickups and I'm using a fender DeVille with a boss gt 6 pedal. I want to get a more 80s thrash slayer maybe candlemassy tone or somewhere inbetween. Should I switch pickups or pedal or both? What are your guys suggestions?
