Rulings question

New players to this TCG. My buddy and I are playing. He has no shields. On my attack for lethal, he played White Wolf. Which states “during this battle, your shield area cards can’t receive damage from Units that are lvl 3 or lower.”

The question: are you still attacking the shield area if you’re going for lethal?
