Getting new shoes because I realized the old ones were a bit big

Hello, I‘ve been wrestling for a bit over a year anf always used Nike Inflict 3s. I recently realized there‘s a bit of drag on them when shooting from there being maybe an inch between my big toe and the end of the shoebox. I wasn‘t sure if this was normal, so I tried my friend‘s Matflexes that were a 42.5 instead of my own 43.5 and noticed that part being better. I also like how flexible the Matflex 7s are. My issue is, I can‘t afford any other shoe than the Matflexes, and those are supposedly a downgrade from my Inflicts. Thus, my question is: is it worth the supposed downgrade to get a slightly more perfect fitting shoe?
