Number of people who clicked apply went down?

I look at a lot of job listings on LI, and I'm used to seeing the number of people who clicked apply rise over time. I saved a job listing which I haven't yet applied to, and I noticed the number rising over the past 36 hours. I just now looked at it, and the number is lower (by ~10) than it was yesterday, and it doesn't say the job was reposted.

Anyone know what would make that number decrease? I assume it's a simple counter, but maybe they have some mechanism that detects bots, though it seems weird to apply that logic _after_ updating the total number. Just wondering if anyone knows why that would happen. It makes me question the reliability of that number.
