What are Lorebooks and Plugins in Jai?

I’ve been looking at stuff for lorebooks and plugins. I heard about them in Jai, and outside of Jai. But what are they? how do you use them? All I searched for have been too confusing or unhelpful. Are they a custom prompt type of deal or are they specifically in the characters you make? Any help would be grateful^^
