I'm not doing well
My 83 yo mom has dementia, undiagnosed. She can't be alone for any amount of time so she is currently living with me, f 56. The severity of it came so fast and I am having a hard time dealing with it. My dad died 10 years ago and my sister and brother also passed (both unexpectedly) so it's just my husband, son and I to take care of her.
As late as July she was living alone, working and driving. Now she doesn't know who I am and has forgotten how to do virtually anything. She can feed herself if someone prepares food and she can mostly go to the bathroom by herself but that's it.
Her visual and auditory hallucinations are non-stop. She talks about nonsense all the time. Lately she has been asking how does she cook my cats! and how long she can keep them in the freezer. I've been just trying to explain they are my pets and I love them and that we don't eat them. Today she had a hold on one so tight that I had to pry her hands off of her! I ended up getting really angry and yelled at her. I know she can't help it but it is driving me crazy!
I've had to put her home up for sale and it sold in 2 days time. The closing date is the 18th and then I will be able to place her in a very nice memory care center. It has just been a nightmare and then having to clear out her home and my childhood home has been terrible but at least she will be somewhere with people that know what they're doing because I surely don't.
She takes Seroquel and Depakote and if it wasn't for that I don't know what we would do. Sorry for the long post, I'm just having a lousy day.
