Church communion

I went to Sunday church this morning, and was presented with a small cup of wine. Each person had their own small plastic cup. I guess my question is, while maybe sounding a bit silly, is this safe to have this small amount every Sunday? I don't drink because I've grown up around addiction. But I'm willing to do this to grow close to Christ
