How can I get excited about making a horror film (I don’t love horror)

Discussion

So I’m trying to get myself excited about doing a low budget commercial horror film. The best horror film I’ve seen in a long time is “Get Out” because it has a level of sophistication that is typically unseen in horror. So I got this concept called “Dead River” about a group of teens who go looking for some hot springs in the kern river. There’s flashbacks to the 1860s where the Tejon Native American settlement was created, where they farmed a bunch of corn, and then come harvest time some rare bug had eaten all the corn from within and there was nothing left but the cobs - then everyone pretty much started dying. So these natives left the settlement for the kern river after it failed and brought with them these parasites. So these parasites are like salamanders in that they can withstand fire - and the parasite ends up in the body of one of the main characters. Then somehow we end up with skin walkers, and more Indian flashbacks. That’s what I have so far, but I’m trying to get some kind of style points for something new, something that’s gonna get me excited to push through with this project.
