Purple Beacons

What is the purpose of the purple beacons inside contract jobs that have yellow bar “Hunter Mob” spawning beside them? The ones I came across on Europa shared the same panels the optional air strike side objective shared that can be shot, but shooting them had no effect and the ads would keep spawning. Are they optional objectives that only activate when inside a larger objective area?
