What handhelds are actually reasonably priced and good quality?

I’m sure this question has been asked a multitude of times but searching is hard, I’m looking for recommendations on good-quality retro gaming handhelds—specifically something that can run Pokémon games and similar titles with a Nintendo DS–style experience (not the super old-school Game Boy clones). I’m not willing to go above $150 something even below $100 would be the best. Ideally, I want a device with updated firmware/software, solid performance, and the ability to either come loaded with multiple games or at least make installing them easy. If you’ve got suggestions for reliable brands, companies, or specific models (modern, well-supported handhelds—nothing super low-end), I’d love to hear them. Bonus points if it can handle DS-era or GBA-era Pokémon smoothly. Thanks in advance!
