Refraction
“How do you know who you really are?”
You don’t know who you really are
The gestalt answer surpasses a singular “you”
A mosaic of experiences so eclectic
That it is overwhelming to even imagine
Values that can be diametrically opposed
Between various points in time and space
“You” are there in each instance
Not the many uniquely shaped prisms
But the light that refracts through them
Perhaps you feel inauthentic
Or without a concrete identity
Consistency within the boundaries of self
Deliberate limitations for definition
Regardless of the values you ascribe to
The “real you” is your willpower
To either dedicate yourself to those terms
Or to grow into something else
And when you’re ready
“You” won’t be around anymore
Only the gestalt whole to observe
