Babies will surprise you
I’d say about a month or two ago, I posted about my LO having been showing signs of crawling since he learned to roll both ways. He hadn’t yet crawled, to which I was met with “it’s too early” responses. I’m hear to update while also wanting to talk about how that response it not always appropriate.
The update: my LO started crawling the day after he turned 8 months old. On the same day, he pulled to stand and is now working on doing so on lesser stable items (like the small basket his toys are usually in) and even attempting to stand without support. Will he walk within the next couple months? No idea. His dad and I were both early walkers, but I think I can wait on having a walking baby, lol.
The response: I believe I made the post wondering about whether or not it was normal for signs to show, with no progress in crawling, not the realistic timeline of when he would do it. Every baby develops differently and saying “it’s still early” is not going to reassure a worried parent that their baby is on track, even if it realistically is early. He was early on a lot of milestones and later on others. Being told it was early, did not help nor was the answer I was looking for.
To other parents that may have the same worries: In the time it took him to crawl, I looked back on everything else he accomplished and did some research. Sometimes, one milestone will pause in progression while others are making their debut. That is why he was showing signs, but never crawled. In that time, he was learning to communicate simple needs with us in his own way, learning to mimic, holding his bottle, and so so so much more. If your baby has been working on a milestone for what seems like forever, they may be working on smaller ones at the same time snd the bigger one is just being placed on a back burner. That is normal. When they finally do crawl, you will likely be beyond just proud after having seen them work very hard for it.
My LO after crawling: Living his best life tearing my house up and chasing after the cats😂
