I, 19F, am in college and the guy I’m interested in, 18M, is in high school. Is that too weird?
I want to start off by saying that when we first started talking, I assumed he had already graduated high school because of his age, and that’s on me. He does a lot of activities outside of school, so I genuinely thought he was doing a gap year or just focusing on those activities. When I asked recently, that’s when he told me he’s actually still in high school. For context, he was born in 2007 and I was born in 2006, so we’re not even a year apart, which is why I thought he had graduated. I also have friends younger than him who have graduated, so it felt like a reasonable assumption.
We met because he came up to me and asked for my instagram. I even asked him how old he was before giving it to him. He told me his age right away (18), and after that we just talked about normal things like our interests, hobbies, etc. Graduation never came up for either of us. I don’t think he was hiding anything, we just hadn’t gotten to that part of the conversation yet ig. I think he assumed I knew, just like I assumed.
Nothing physical has happened between us, we’ve just talked and made casual plans. I’m trying to add in as many details as possible so I don’t have to answer as many questions.
So anyways, I’m not sure how to feel about this. The age gap itself is small, but I’m a sophomore in college and he’s a senior in high school, which feels like a different stage of life. I do like him, and we had already made plans before I found this out. Now I’m wondering if it’s weird or if I should drop it.
Is this too strange, or am I just thinking too deeply about things?
