Barb wasn’t a great friend and she did slut shame Nancy

Look, she wasn’t a bad person. She was just a teenage girl trying to find her place in the world, she saw her friend changing and it scared her. I don’t hate her, but when the first season came out, yall were so quick to side with her. She was barely in the show and the most significant thing she did (other than die) was shame Nancy about wanting to have sex. I know she was talking about Steve not being genuine but I’d argue her actual problem was that she felt like her friend was pulling away from her and Barb felt left behind.

There was nothing wrong with Nancy wanting to have sex. Teenagers are allowed to choose “the wrong guy”. I think a big reason some people in the fandom adopted a negative attitude with Nancy was because of hindsight with Barb dying. Nancy felt so much guilt and even though it really wasn’t her fault at all, I think some people saw her feel like that and actually believed it was her fault in someway.
