Shell or insulated for snowboarding Vail in late January?

Some friends and I have a 5 days of riding trip planned for the last week of January to Vail. I’m from northern MI and almost always wear a shell for a jacket but 2 friends who go to vail this time of year said I should probably have something insulated. I’ve always gone west in the spring when temps weren’t an issue. Most days just riding in a hoodie.

Anyone that lives up that way able to give some better suggestions than us low landers would have?
