As an IT person, I know why the Hive really avoids Carol so much

Interacting with somebody like Carol seems like a really hard job for the Hive. She's fierce, blunt and very individualistic, and will call bullshit when she sees it. The Hive faking social interactions works on many of the other survivors, but not Carol.

In the the very first interactions Carol has with the Hive, sometimes she would ask something and there would a be a noticeable multi-second delay before the Hive would think of how to respond appropriately. Which, of course, made it even more obvious to Carol that she's not talking to a real person.

So naturally, the Hive gathered all of its best knowledge on how to deal with Carol and loaded it all directly into Zosia's brain. To store the data close to the edge where it's being served, so to speak. And naturally, because the best IT engineers are also in the Hive, no-one thought to make any backups.

And after Carol's little cute thiopental experiment, Zosia's body is now in a coma.

This is why the Hive avoids Carol: they are desperately trying to reboot their only working production server.
