how do i get varied islands using a nook miles ticket?

maybe a silly question, but i’ve recently picked up the game again after 2 years of not playing so i’m definitely relearning a lot, and in the process, have completely started my island again. i’m starting completely from scratch with the game reset!

i’ve been using a nook miles ticket to head to other islands to get materials, get more trees etc & i constantly get the same one, (over 5 times in a row now, with no others)

is this normal? is there anyway i can change it, or do i just have to keep playing etc

also very keen to hear any tips you have at this stage of the game!! 😊
