Can anyone tell me why there is such a venomous hatred for "Paid Games?"
Streamers, Live Play Groups, and Organizations like SPG have proven that dedicated, passionate, and vetted GMs have a skill that's in high demand.
Great GMs are a commodity. The world isn't a utopia; everyone needs to pay bills. Why wouldn’t someone skilled utilize their skills?
People hating on Paid GMs only “sh*ts on the little guy,” it’s punching down. It doesn’t change the fact that D&D is already a multi-billion-dollar property owned by a multinational toy company, which may be the real reason for a lot of this hatred.
Many people struggle to find a reliable tabletop group with an experienced GM where they live (I know several of my players live in non-native English-speaking parts of the world right now).
And if you can't afford it, that’s no problem! Everyone is broke right now. Plenty of Paid GMs are looking for "Seat Fillers" as well (free to play experienced gamers willing to support newbie gamers and double-check a rule every once in a while! Having players attracts more players!)
Why not engage in an open conversation about prices and availability/player commitment (which affects the entire party)?
I know it's hard to believe for some people, but we’re all just doing our best out here.
