My husband and I lost two kittens in eight weeks and he is pressuring to adopt again immediately. I feel unsafe and overwhelmed. What do I do?

My husband and I (mid 20s) recently lost two kittens within about eight weeks. Both deaths were sudden and traumatic. My husband found both kittens and took it very hard. I was woken up both times to the news that they had died, which has made me feel unsafe and on edge in our apartment.

He is grieving intensely and has been spiraling. Last night he commented “interested” on several Facebook kitten adoption posts and even messaged at least one person privately, all without telling me. Today he told me someone offered him a kitten that looks like our most recent one and he wants to get it as soon as possible.

I told him I am not ready and suggested we wait until after New Year, but he got frustrated and walked away. When we first talked about it, he said maybe after my upcoming trip, which I could possibly handle. Now he wants one immediately and it feels like the goalpost keeps moving. I feel really anxious and pressured.

I love my husband and I know he loves me. He even drove an hour yesterday to get me a Christmas tree because I liked the one we had last year. But when it comes to this kitten topic he becomes unpredictable and shuts me down emotionally. It is making me feel like I have to walk on eggshells.

Am I unreasonable for wanting at least a month or two before trying again? How do I communicate that I need time without making this a bigger conflict? I feel super overwhelmed and unsure what to do.
